TAQUILE

Uros Island

OPTION FULL DAY

Early in the morning after breakfast, take a full day motor boat excursion on the Lake Titicacaca waters towards the unique Floating Islands of the Uros, ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe. This Andean natives built their own islands by adding periodically new layers of a unique plant called totora (a type of reed), as well as their homes and boats. Next continue your motor boat trip to the Taquile Island, inhabited by quechua-speaking natives who have developed an efficient and original social systems and a fine hand weaving technique through generations. After lunch at a local posada of Taquile, take a walk through the several hills and archaeological sites of this 6km long island. Early afternoon return to Puno for overnight at selected hotel.

UROS

OPTION 2 DAYS

FIRST DAY.- Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Puno very early in the morning, to take a two-hour motor excursion on the waters of Lake Titicaca to the unique Floating " Islands " of the Uros. These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the Water Tribe, have built their own "islands" by periodically adding new layers of a type of reed unique to the area called "Totora". Their homes and boats are also made from this material.

TaquileAfter having experienced some of the ancient traditions of the local people, you continue your motor boat trip to to Taquile Island , also inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand weaving techniques, down through the generations. It is necessary to go up a stairway of more than 567 steps - streaks of stone that wind their way among greenery platforms - to arrive at the Town of Taquile where we will have a break to eat.

SECOND DAY.- After breakfast, you have time to stroll at leisure through the quaint streets of this colourful island in the afternoon, return to Puno. Overnight at hotel
