PAMPAS

WHAT IS THE PAMPAS ?

The Bolivian Pampas is located near the lowland village of Santa Rosa, this is an area of Savannah (pampa), a very flat landscape divided by meandering rivers and characterized generally by low and open vegetation, ideal for animal observation. It has a very high diversity and abundance of fauna, especially birds. Notable species found in the area include: capybaras, pink dolphins, monkeys  ( including black howler, squirrel and brown capuchin), anacondas – the largest land snake, continue on canoes by Yacuma River and travel up the river looking for pink dolphins, monkeys, capybaras, turtles and a great variety of bird life from hawks, ibises, screamers, herons, toucans, macaws and others.

Get into the canoe again and travel on Yacuma River to find a place to start walking into the savannas to look for the world’s largest snake: the anaconda.

In the rivers you will have a chance to observe the strange pink dolphins, friendly animals with which you may swim and play, turtles and capybaras. If you like you can also accede to a short walk to see rheas, anteaters and monkeys.

RESERVA MUNICIPAL PAMPAS DEL RIO YACUMA

Municipal Ordinance was declared by the Yacuma Santa Rosa in 2007. The Reserve protects the habitat of a large amount of wildlife that finds refuge in the woods along the river Yacuma.
Santa Rosa is a predominantly farming area, taking advantage of natural grassland pampas and the abundance of water. Extensive livestock rearing is one of the main practice of burning pasture for regrowth, which along with soil disturbance by trampling, are the main impacts of this activity.
In the town of Santa Rosa is the House of Simon, the main house of the Estancia Santa Rosa that led the people. In the early twentieth century the stay provided meat, sugar and alcohol workers in rubber and cinchona.
