Palca Canyon

All One Day

Take this day trip and explore two natural attractions in southern La Paz, only a few km away from the city. This tour will take you first to the Valley of the Souls and its unique rocky landscapes filled with magic. Later you will explore and talk through the Palca Canyon, stretching out below the foot of majestic Illimani, the guardian mountain of La Paz.

Important Information

This tour might not be available during rainy season if the Palca canyon is flooded. If you book far in advance for a date between December and March we will confirm it but still reserve the right to cancel it in case of unfavorable weather conditions (which we will only find out closer to the date). A full refund would be issued in that case.

The price for this tour depends on your group size. Please check the booking form below for exact prices. The option you choose must match the number of the travelers in the quantity box at the bottom of the page.

This tour can pick you up only if you are staying in central La Paz or Sopocachi. Pickups are not possible at all if you are staying at AirBnbs or outside of the pickup area (Obrajes, Calacoto, San Miguel, Mallasa, Achumani etc. and in general the whole Zona Sur are not in the pickup area). If you are staying outside of the city centre you will be redirected to a central meeting point.

Food is not included in the price so make sure you have some with you, together with a bottle of water (recommended at least 1.5 liters). Sun can be very strong so do not forget your sun cream and a good hat. This tour should not be seen as a proper long “trek”, but good hiking shoes are highly recommended as it does include some hiking (about 3/4 hours in total).

Morning

You will get picked up from your accommodation at around 8.00/8.30 am and get on our private transport. As you make your way towards the south of La Paz the guide will briefly outline the programme of the day.

Valley of the Souls

You will leave the city behind and first reach the Valley of the Souls. This area is characterized by its curious rock formations as well as by its importance in the Andean mystical traditions that make it home to a number of rituals during the crucial times of the year.

Farming villages

Back in the transport, we will make our way through the La Paz countryside and farming villages eventually reaching the Palca Canyon, a real natural beauty. This canyon is the result of thousands of years of erosion from water that shaped the landscape in a unique way.

Landscapes

Its lost-in-time landscapes, together with numerous little canyons making their way on the sides, and a clear view of impressive Illimani, make Palca Canyon the ideal location for a relaxing hike and incredible pictures.
